What sets XRP and Ethereum apart

XRP and Ethereum were built for different purposes. The XRP Ledger focuses on fast, cheap payments and currency exchange, and Ripple, a US company, uses XRP in its cross-border payment products. Ethereum is a general platform for smart contracts that run apps, tokens and stablecoins. All 100 billion XRP already exist, while new ETH is issued to stakers and part of every fee is burned.

XRP has often moved on news about Ripple and its court case with the SEC. Ethereum moves more on activity in DeFi and stablecoins and on its own network upgrades, such as the Merge to proof of stake in 2022.

How to compare XRP and Ethereum in Staxo

  1. Step 1

Find both in the Market tab

XRP and Ethereum are both among the 10 coins on Staxo's free plan, so you can trade them with the $500 in demo money you start with, using market orders and up to 10 trades a day.

  2. Step 2

Buy the same amount of each

Put $100 into each at the same moment. They swung about equally over the last year, so on most days the two positions should move by similar amounts.

  3. Step 3

    Check them side by side

Open your Portfolio once a day and count the days the two positions go opposite ways. Over the last 12 months that happened on 64 of 365 days, often enough to notice within two weeks.

  4. Step 4

Read the RSI on both charts

The coin screen shows the RSI(14) on the free plan. Over the last year Ethereum had more oversold days, below 30, than XRP (22 against 13). Staxo Pro adds MACD, Bollinger Bands and candlestick charts, plus short selling and leverage at 1x, 2x and 5x.
