What sets Bitcoin and Dogecoin apart

Dogecoin started in 2013 as a lighthearted alternative to Bitcoin, and both still run on proof-of-work mining. The big difference is supply: Bitcoin is capped at 21 million coins, while Dogecoin adds about 5 billion new coins every year with no cap at all. Dogecoin's price has also been driven far more by social media attention.

Dogecoin has had some of its largest moves on posts by public figures, most famously Elon Musk, while Bitcoin's big days are usually tied to wider market news. That makes the pair a common example of how much social attention can move a coin.
